A 20-year-old man from Ilkeston, Anthony Lanchester, has been sentenced to six years and six months in a young offender’s institution after being found guilty of raping one boy and sexually assaulting another.

First Incident

On 15 October of the previous year, Lanchester followed a boy who was walking a friend home. He continued trailing the child into Wash Meadows Recreation Ground, locally known as Johnny’s Park. There, he approached the boy and went on to commit several offences, including rape. The assault was reported to police more than a month later, on 27 November, leading to Lanchester’s arrest on 2 December.

Second Incident

While on bail for the first case, Lanchester assaulted another boy on 15 April of the following year. This incident occurred in the early afternoon on Beauvale Drive in Cotmanhay. He was arrested again shortly afterward and charged with rape and multiple counts of sexual assault.

Court Proceedings

Lanchester denied all charges during a hearing on 30 May. A jury later convicted him of rape and two counts of sexual assault during a trial at Nottingham Crown Court on 20 October. He was acquitted of one sexual assault charge linked to the second victim.

Sentencing and Orders

On 1 December, a judge imposed a sentence of six years and six months. Lanchester was also ordered to be added to the sex offenders register for life and placed under an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Additionally, five-year restraining orders were issued for both victims.
